Hello Lactnetters,
For those of you that suggested protocols from the Academy of Breastfeeding
Medicine. A great big Thank YOU! I have just presented the protocols to our
surgeons and anesthesiologists to review so that we can add it to our policy.
I will update when it becomes fact. I have been hoping that our team will
consider our breastfeeding mothers and provide continuity of care and
preserve breastfeeding.
I received a call from a new mom today. She went to ready care with her
infant. Infant was diagnosed with thrush. She was told that it was caused
from breastfeeding and she should stop. No direction only medicine for the
baby no treatment or consideration for her. Thank God she decided to call me.
At seems for every step forward we seem to take three backwards.
Thanks again,
Terri Klein RN CLE CLC
