Hi Everyone
I have been 'absent' for a while attending Gold08 Online Conference
(http://www.gold08.com/) and a great one-day seminar (Birth, Breastfeeding
& Beyond) in Sydney on 30 May.
I have been following both Dr Odent's work and research re oxytocin on & off
for almost 20 years, so was thrilled to see him presenting his sessions on
oxytocin and C-sections.
Dr Odent spoke about oxytocin as being a 'shy' hormone and the importance
of giving mothers privacy during birth. He also encouraged the audience
(mostly midwives) to develop what he called a 'bilingual' approach when
attempting to 'spread the word' about the need to adopt a new 'physiology
framework' for what he calls the 'primal period' - conception through to 12
months. (see attached)
His 'bilingual' approach meant being able to combine 'speaking from the heart'
with articulating the research. He also said that this new framework is
important for the 'whole of civilisation'. It was evident that his passion has not
waned after all these years.
I have also attached a pdf of a fascinating essay written by Dr Odent (not too
long!) - called "From Homo Super-predator to Homo Ecologicus". It's worth a
read.
Cheers, Julieanne
