Jaye,
Are these doctors going to refuses to do her surgery if she refuses to wean? This is not an issue of interference with her recovery, but of their ignorance and convenience, which frankly, is not their prerogative. So, I would suggest mom inform her doctors that she plans to continue to bf, that she will provide the pump and the person to pump and ask them which procedures are necessary to ensure that her husband has access to do so. I would then encourage mom to seek supportive therapies, depending on what is available in your area such as a homeopath, CST, naturopath and I would suggest she find someone with a biomat (many PTs and massage therapists have them). She needs to focus on her well-being after this surgery, not grief over the loss of her relationship with her baby.
