Hello all,

I am one of those fairly new IBCLCs that is lacking a bit in confidence. I
have been asked to do a 1 ½ hour long presentation to local nurses (from OB
department, public health, etc) on breastfeeding. The only specific request
I have received is to discuss nipple shield use and some sort of scripting
for the hospital nurses as they work best with scripting. We are hoping
this will be helpful in preventing some of the inconsistent breastfeeding
support we see in the early days in the hospital setting.

I think that I should probably focus on how to get breastfeeding off to a
good start in the early days from the provider viewpoint with a side bar
about appropriate nipple shield use with a STRONG encouragement for nurses
to try to refer moms discharged using these to a community breastfeeding
resource (which basically at this point in our small community means ME.)

Are there any resources out there or presentation that might already be
ready made for this? While I feel I know my stuff, I am severely lacking in
the confidence field and have this feeling of “I can’t believe some is
asking ME to present. I have always GONE to presentations, I haven’t been
the focus! (Unless you count leading LLL meetings lol) I hate feeling like
I am faking it. I do much better at one on one counseling. :)

So any help or direction will be great. (Thanks in advance, wise ones) I
will be going out of town for four days, but I hope I will return to some
direction from anyone who feels willing to help. :)
