I'll be on the radio tonight in a different capacity: as guest, rather
than interviewer. The call-in portion of the news will deal with the
issue of Miss California's breast implants.
Issues include: mission statement of Miss California Pageant supporting
physical fitness; requirement of Miss California to be young, unmarried,
and childless; mandate from pageant officials to get implants; implants
purchased by pageant officials "for" Miss California; the putative
reason for implants being confidence and self-esteem; and the
considerations of intentionally damaging a body part which is assumed to
be functional, with implications for the health and well-being of this
woman and all her future children over their lifetimes.
Send me any other thoughts you may have.
Yours,
Arly Helm, MS, IBCLC
