I have a young client who wants to breastfeed but her baby has a short
frenulum and she had difficulty getting baby to latch. We discussed talking to
the pediatrician about clipping the frenulum to facilitate breastfeeding.
According to the client the doctor's response was "have you tried a bottle?"
Now the client is using only the bottle, pumping and formula feeding "a few
bottles a day." First does any have any ideas on encouraging this client to
continue breastfeeding? Second, how might I approach this physician to
educate her on how this procedure may have helped the client continue
breastfeeding (sticky situation this is my child's pediatrician too)? Thanks!
