Hello all,

I have mom's permission to post. I am stumped--seems to be many issues.

Mom gave birth 5 months ago to a girl via c-sect due to previa. She
has a 3 year old also delivered by c-sect. Mom nursed her first baby
for 3 months until her milk dried up due to iodine she was given (is
this possible?) for testing. She had a blood clot that broke off
from c-sect and went to her lung.

Baby #2 was 7 lb 13 oz at birth, 7 lb at discharge and mom is
estimating 15 to 17 lbs at this moment. Baby was jaundiced initially
and the hospital gave formula as well for low blood sugar. Baby grew
from 19 1/2 in at birth to 26 inches at 2 months. Baby is crawling
and hitting milestones. Mom said that she bled for two months after
birth. This was also the case after first c-sect, and said that she
was told that after a c-sect, moms can bleed for up to 16 weeks. Is
this true? At about 1 month postpartum, mom past a very large clot
and was admitted into the hospital. She said they suctioned out only
her vagina, not the uterus. At two months when the bleeding stopped,
she had an IUD inserted. Bleeding started again and continued to get
heavy and continued straight until the IUD was removed after 1
month. It was lodged in her uterus. She said after the removal
while in the hospital, her pads were being changed every 15 minutes.

Mom says she has not felt a let down in 2 months. When baby was four
months, she was more interested in surroundings than nursing, and
eventually, just started fussing at the breast. Mom started
supplementing with abm--1 bottle per day. At 5 months, baby gets 2
--6 oz bottles of abm each day and maybe 1-- 1oz bottle of ebm. She
is now giving 3 oz of rice after abm feedings to try and "fill" baby
up. WHy did she start the supplementing? Baby was barely taking the
breast. No noticeable swallowing. After birth, mom said she was
blessed with milk. Enough to start donating!

In the past 24 hours, baby has had 3-4 wet diapers (cloth) and one
bm. Mom was able to get the Ameda elite from WIC. At the moment,
she is getting about 1 oz per day pumping. She is taking, "More milk
plus" which has both fenugreek and blessed thistle, plus drinking
mother's milk tea. She said within one day of taking galactogogues,
her bra went up one cup size and she had ample milk----one day later
everything was back to previous.

She is also under a lot of stress. Her husband is in the Navy and is
out to sea. Her 3 year old is throwing tantrums continuously, and
she is now caring for a four month old because they need the money.

I appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Gloria Thai, Va
