greetings,
mother pregnant, having thyroid ablation for thyroid cancer. doctors
originally wanted to do radiation treatment immediately post-delivery
and separate mom and baby for a week, with total weaning.
now, because cancer does not appear to have spread, docs willing to
wait 6 months, but are suggesting total weaning, to achieve empty
breasts before radiation treatment. they say the reasons are that not
enough is known about the effect of radiation on breast tissue, and
that it might travel through the milk (if pumping and dumping) and
cause breast cancer later.
any knowledge of whether this is a valid concern?
thanks!
Lyla
