Check Red Book AAP. Hep A is an acute self-limited illness, typically lasts
several weeks, prolonged or relapsing disease can last as long as 6 mo.
Chronic infection does not occur. Virus is shed for 1-2 weeks before onset
of illness :-( (my old Red Book). But I'm fairly sure newer ed says same.
It is passed by fecal to oral route - Mom must wash hands!! Hep A is not
even mentioned in my old Red Book under transmission by breastmilk.
Not mentioned in Hale's Clinical Therapy book. No meds given for Hep A.
LLLI BF Answer Book says no benefit to withholding breastfeeding in Hep A.
