I remember an incident when I and a LLL co-leader were going to the same pediatrician who for that time was one of the more supportive ones. Our babies had appointments a couple hours apart on the same day. He told me mine was slowing down on weight gain (which I wasn't concerned about and now know was normal) and I should start solids. Then he told the co-leader hers was gaining too fast so she should start solids! Amazing that the same intervention can solve such opposite problems! I suspect that some docs who are not that knowledgable about breastfeeding feel they need to suggest something when they or the mom wonders if things are going OK. Sugesting a change in the breastfeeding seems like such as easy "solution" to offer.
