Thanks to everyone that replied. The information was helpful. Our policy is
similar to Natasha's, except we do have all visitors gown and glove until 3
consecutive negative cultures are obtained.
I have a little more history now:
This mom had a positive MRSA culture of boils on her neck in July, but didn't
complete the whole MRSA rteatment protocol at that time. With this admission
at 34 weeks for premature rupture of membranes, her boils have healed. But
since she didnt' complete the protocol of antibiotics or followup with
subsequent cultures to verify negative x3, this admission flagged her as
positive. She has no active wounds at this time. Today she has now
completed the decolonization treatment and is now on her 1st of 3 daily
cultures. If they come back negative she may visit the baby without gown and
glove and may then start Kcare. She has initiated pumping after seeing the
Lactation Consultant, but has not been motiviated to pump often after all the
initial concern so she has pumped only once a day. If she had brought milk to
the nursery the neonatologist wanted baby to recieve it. But mom has never
brought milk to them.
Thanks again,
Rachel Miller
