Subject: Re: Deaths from injuries versus bottles
Well --- that was quick. I received a UNICEF document on childhood
injur= ies that will put=20 this in perspective ----=20
The one million deaths from not breastfeeding is (I believe) in only the
= first year of life.
The number of deaths for children AND adolescents --- a much larger age
r= ange is 875,000.
Out of those deaths, the most prominent causes of death were road
crashes= and drowning.
Out of those deaths, only 4% or 34,000 were from violence. Gun deaths
wo= uld be classified=20 as deaths from violence.
So, the number of deaths from violence among children AND adolescents is
= 3.4% of the=20 number of deaths among only infants from not
breastfeeding. And guns is = only a fraction of=20 all deaths from
violence.
Soooooo, I guess that means that the number of deaths from bottles far
ou= tweighs the=20 number of deaths from guns.
Best, Susan Burger
