Hello,
I wanted to let you know that I have had very good success with badly
inverted nipples (to the point that the tissue inside was still pinkish and had
never touched clothing) Using a 10 or 15 or larger size syringe cutting off the
tip after pulling back the plunger. then turn it around put the plunger in
backwards so the flat of the syringe is against moms skin, not where you cut
it. then have mom apply this over her nipples one at a time and GENTLY pull
the plunger out a little at a time only to comfort and leave it there for as long
as comfortable. If you do this several times in an hour the skin starts pulling
out. You can manually roll some more out. This skin is very tender... It may
take a few days to get the nipple out completely, but once its out enough for
a babe to get ahold of the breast and suckle they do the rest. I have also
tried the latch assist. Same idea. They have a stronger suck than I thought
but in this case i think the syringe would work better.
Honestly, its never NOT worked. But it takes time, up to a 3 days for
stubborn cases. Again, once the baby is able to latch and help break up some
of the adhesions then great...except you may have a step back when the milk
comes in.
Good Luck,
Robin
