How breastfeeding reduces the risk of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea is
the topic I cover in my presentation that was just placed on
Health-e-Learning's website. I am very pleased that it was available online for the beginning
of World Breastfeeding Week.
The 67 minute presentation is available to anyone in the world. It
summarizes my 30+ years of research on the topic of how breastfeeding can help reduce
the risk of developing the malocclusions that put individuals at risk for
developing breathing and sleeping problems, especially obstructive sleep apnea
(OSA). OSA is a MAJOR contributor to many health problems, including high blood
pressure, heart attacks, strokes, depression, daytime sleepiness,
hyperactivity, bedwetting and obesity. This presentation is a visual explanation of my
article that is available at: http://brianpalmerdds.com/pdf/Master_2_27_06.pdf
This article is also available in French, Spanish, Greek, German and
Italian in the International Room on my website. If there is anyone out there who
is fluent in another language and would like to translate the article into
another language, I would be happy to work with you to accomplish this.
BREASTFEEDING is the KEY to TOTAL HEALTH by reducing breathing and sleeping
problems! Once more healthcare professionals understand this relationship,
breastfeeding will be elevated to the higher level of importance that it so
deserves.
I can envision breastfeeding support people getting together around a
computer with a couple of healthcare professionals or friends, watching the
presentation, and then discussing the merits of the presentation.
Other doctors are starting to understand and accept my research. I would
encourage you to listen to theTara Marie Segundo online radio show that was just
broadcast last week on July 29. She interviewed Dr. Steven Park, an Ear,
Nose and Throat specialist in NY. Dr. Park had me review his book before it
was submitted for publication. While reading the book, I thought I could have
written the same book. As an ENT specialist, he has observed the same things
I observed during the 35 years I was in active dental practice (now retired).
To listen to the online radio broadcast, go to:
http://www.hotradio125.com/showpages/taramariesegundo.htm and click on Download at the end of the July
29, 2008 note. I called in about 3/4 way through the show. He gives my
website some credit for helping him develop some of his ideas.
The title of Dr. Park's book is: Sleep, Interrupted: A physician reveals the
#1 reason why so many of us are sick and tired. The book is due out mid
September. I can highly recommend the book for everyone, especially those with
sleeping problems. Information on the book is available at:
http://www.westsideent.stirsite.com/page/page.cfm/sleepinterrupted . Note my comment at the
very end of that page.
Dr. Hawley Montgomery-Downs, a director of a sleep lab in Virginia, had an
article published last November: Infant-Feeding Methods and Childhood
Sleep-Disordered Breathing, Vol 120, No 5, November 2007:1030-1035. Reference #40 in
the reference section of that article is my article above. Her article
states: "Our finding support the notion that breastfeeding may provide long-term
protection against the severity of childhood sleep-disordered breathing. In
correspondence with Dr. Montgomery-Downs, she stated that my website helped her
to develop some of the ideas for her research.
I believe the IMPORTANCE OF BREASTFEEDING has just entered a new era.
Regarding the presentation. LC's and American nurses receive 1.25 CERP
credit hours and one week of unlimited access to the presentation for $18.75 US.
The presentation is also available to anyone else in the world for the same
fee. When you consider nobody has to travel, stay in a hotel, get off work,
or pay a conference fee, it is a very cheap continuing education credit.
I am hoping this note does not go against LACTNET's rules regarding promoting
specific conferences. This is not a conference and I know this presentation
will not be given by anyone else at any other time, since nobody else has
spent, or will spend, 30+ years doing the research I have done. I am hoping
however, that other researchers will learn from what they see. and continue on
with the research.
I need your help in making sure as many healthcare providers as possible see
this presentation. Please feel free to share this information with others.
Have a great day!
