It really is a pity, indeed, because it is a very good, thoroughly written piece. I should know, I proof-read ;-)

Well, I'm in the process of writing my leaflett and I state this:
The lactation consultant focuses on the mother-child dyad. Because of the voicelessness of the child, the lactation consultant will always act as the voice of the child and keep his/her well-being her first priority. That will, of course, not exclude the concerns, needs and feelings of the mother.
That means, that as an LC I would in the first place would like to be felt respected by the child.
In counseling or teaching I like to say things like: this is what a baby is like and what babies have been like for all times. They don't change and their needs don't change. Societies do and is is our task to fit in society's needs in baby's needs.
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in very sunny and warm southern Netherlands
