Dear Wise Ones,
I have Mother's permission to post. Please share any information as soon
as possible due to short (48 hour) hospital stay. Newly delivered 16 year old
primip is leaking copious amounts of a sero-sanguinous fluid from both breasts.
Mother plans to breastfeed but was worried about the presence of blood and
of course night shift NBN reccomended bottles until I could see her. I thought
of the possibility of intraductal papilloma but I have never seen such large
amounts of bloody fluid from both breasts. It seems to go way beyond "rusty
pipes". The attending making rounds today listened to my report but didn't
have any suggestions either. I thought maybe using the hospital grade electric
pump gently could help clear the blood for the colostrum to come through but
after the first use there was nothing resembling colostrum in the bottle with
about 12 cc's of thick bloody fluid. Mom is comfortable now with a bra and
fresh breast pads as she leaks moderate amounts spontaneously. Her breasts
are well developed , symmetrical in shape and size , non-tender with normal
growth during the pregnancy. Can someone please offer some suggestions for
how I can help this young mama ? My thanks to you in advance !
