Some ABA people here in Australia have taken up the issue of book
illustrations and found that here, many publishers are concerned about what
Americans will think of books showing breastfeeding and so are reluctant to
have illustrations with breastfeeding because it may affect overseas
sales...most unfortunate.
For those who might be interested in this issue I have a paper on long term
breastfeeding that also looks at children's early learning about infant
feeding which touches on this issue. I can email a pdf to those interested.

Subject: Please Vote on Ideablob: Book for breastfeeding kids

From another list...

Subject: Seeking support for book for breastfeeding kids on ideablob

For the past year or so, our LLL Toddler group has been trying to
track down all of the breastfeeding friendly kid books we can find.
One mom half joked that we should write our own pro-nursing kid book,
since there are only about 8 on the market. (As opposed to the 9000
books on the market showing everything from baby bears, dogs, and
monsters to baby humans holding baby bottles, or even just subtly
advertising formula by having bottles all over everything.

I even wrote to a couple authors and illustrators, including the
children's book illustrators forum, to ask if they would consider
stopping showing bottles in books. We had a fascinating conversation
and I learned that many publishers and library groups WILL NOT ALLOW
DEPICTIONS OF BREASTFEEDING, MALE NIPPLES, OR UDDERS ON COWS. I am
not joking, I wish I were. Udders, I ask you.)
