I haven't been following all of this thread, but wanted to share my
favourite example of how I think breastfeeding messages should target the
general public.
Take a look at these TV ads for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, from my province of
Saskatchewan:

Instead of targeting the mom - they put all emphasis on how those people
around her can help. Drinking is a social activity, with social pressures
to participate.
Likewise breastfeeding is a very social activity, and social pressure
impacts on success.
Just think how easy it would be to do a commercial like this, and how it
could change the whole dialogue around breastfeeding in North America!
