Well, I will say a few words on this one. Not knowing the situation,
obviously, and the woman's financial means, I would have to suggest that
this woman consider other employment. From what you say, I think the writing
is on the wall, that this employer is not going to be family-friendly. It
seems it would not be much more expensive for the employer to pay for the
child and the caretaker in the hotel room, but I don't think they would pay
for the airfare. The mom would have to pay that. But if she did I dont' see
why they would object. She could also refuse the assignment if they dont'
accomodate her needs (as long as she is paying, again), and if she is
dismissed perhaps she would have a legal case. Although many employers can
fire at will with no reason given.
She might speak to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) about her
rights.
Unless I was absolutely unable to exist without that particular job, I would
definitely be looking for another place to work. After all the child is only
10 mos old, and surely other of his needs will have to be attended to. This
is certainly not the case for most women, but some can downsize their
budgets and lifestyles and cut back to part time work or take a longer
leave.
Hope she can satisfactorily resolve this crisis.
