Thanks everyone for the weaning stories.  My sample:
#1: 2 years (LAM for 13 months)
#2: 4 years on the dot (LAM for 23 months)
#3: 4 and a bit (not sure exactly) (LAM for 22 months)
Though I think this is typical of what I'd call 'successful' breastfeeders, I do often see the opposite at work.  For mothers who make it through 3 weeks or 3 months with the first baby, they often quit sooner with subsequent children.  My guess is that combining experience with bottle-feeding (where nothing too dire occured) with never experiencing the joys of a nursing relationship (which IMHO gets better as the child gets older) with whatever negatives (usually perceived insufficient supply) that caused the early weaning, mothers have incentives to just quit sooner with 2nd or more babies.
Any study done on this topic may find that the 2 groups - long-term breastfeeders and short-term breastfeeders - statistically cancel each other out.
