Mammograms are not very accurate in young women or those with dense breasts.
Skilled, monthly self-exam or clinical exam by a practitioner trained in the
MammaCare technique of breast exam might more accurately detect suspicious
lumps when they are still very small, even as small as 3 mm in diameter.
That area can then be examined by ultrasound on an emptied breast. Fine
needle aspiration can also help rule out cancer in any palpable lumps. MRI
is also fairly accurate for younger women and those with dense breasts.
Since prolonged (or normal duration) breastfeeding can significantly reduce
the risk of premenopausal breast cancer, it is counterintuitive to wean
prematurely just for the sake of doing a routine screening mammogram when no
symptoms are present. http://www.mammacare.com/
