Morgan has told us of a baby who reacted badly to a Mead Johnson formula supplemented with DHA/ARA made by Martek. For more extensive information on this problem see the publication Replacing Mother—Imitating Human Breast Milk in the Laboratory from the Cornucopia Institute at http://cornucopia.org/index.php/replacing-mother-infant-formula-report/. I contributed to this report which looks at some of the side effects of the use of the supplemented formulas. The FDA has received many reports of babies reacting badly as has NABA. This mother should read the report and check within her country on how to address her grievances. She has the option of litigation if she chooses but would need to contact an attorney within her own country to see how this would be done. As far as I can tell, Martek is not owned by a fortune 500 company or any other company.

NABA and the Cornucopia Institute have petitioned the FDA to put a warning about this problem on the can label. So far the FDA has done nothing. Those of you in the US can write to the FDA requesting action. If you do so, refer to the docket number FDA-2008-P-0074-0001/CP.
