Dear all:
Here in Manhattan, many parents have bought the so-called GREEN bottles. I have to say
that most of these are very rapid flow and babies choke on them. This include Green to Go,
Born Free, and Adiri --- which sometimes is too slow and lately too fast. I think I'm
violating some lactnet principal, in naming names, but I am tired of babies squishing the
heck out of mom's nipples and getting frustrated because they got used to the rapid flow
bottles.
Despite my best educational efforts I am seeing more and more clients who are feeding
their babies four times a day thinking that a baby and milk supply will be just fine only to
have it all fall apart. The pediatrician to the stars is becoming more and more extreme
telling mothers of 6 week olds to shut the door on their babies from 8 pm to 8 am when the
moment their babies turn 8 weeks old.
I guess there has been a trend towards form over function that is getting to me.
Best, Susan Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC
