Diane,
This reminds me of a sensory defensive infant. Both Nancy Williams and
Catherine Genna have published articles on this topic, and Cathy's new book
also discusses it; you might want to read up and see if more resonates.
There are special types of exercises that can help, but OTs can provide the
best guidance.
