I'm a 21 year veteran of the Chicago Fire Dept. My kids are now 11 and 14, however I nursed both of them and pumped every 3-4 hours at the firehouse with hospital grade medela pump. There were times when I couldn't pump when I wanted, but for the most part it went pretty smooth.
I had the support of everyone I worked with on the job. Nursing is difficult at first, when trying to get used to 24 hours away from your baby, but it gets easier with time and practice.
My firstborn weaned right around the first year and my second child nursed just short of 6 years.
Its possible for anyone willing to do it.
