It doesn't sound to me like the psychiatrist wants her to stop because of the 
medication she is taking, as she has been taking it through pregnancy and 6 
months of lactation.  To me, with the info you posted, it sounds like the 
psych. thinks she should quit because there is no longer any benefit to 
breastfeeding.  

Just because this psychiatrist is an educated person does not mean that they 
have accurate (or even healthy) views regarding breastfeeding. We have all 
heard about doctors telling mothers that it is  "weird", ..."perverted,"... (you 
fill in the blank) to nurse past 3 months or 6 months or what ever number they 
pull out of their ---.

Unfortunatly, some people seeing a psychiatrist might not be in a position of 
strength to stand up  to an authority figure.
