Hi Rebecca,
Congratulations on your new position! Here are a couple recommendations. I
like and use Barbara Wilson-Clay and Kay Hoover's "Pumping milk for your
preterm baby" color fold-out handout. Of course, the info is applicable for
any nicu baby.
I would get alot of info on kangaroo care, perhaps some videos. I think
there is a bf/premie video that folks like called "a premie needs his
mother" or something like that. Something for moms to watch and get
motivated.
I would also suggest that you get your hands on stuff from Paula Meier and
Rush Mother's Milk Club at Rush Presbyterian in Chicago. You will also need
info on pumps and pumping and resources where mom's can access pumps, of
course.
As a former nicu nurse, I once was offered a NICU LC position, which I
really really wanted, but I would have had to relocate or drive about 90
miles!
