Hi Samantha,
My understanding is that the kits are put together by different parts of the
organisation so while I know that Mercy Corps in Indonesia is on the ball
this is not necessarily the case elsewhere (and I have seen some problems).
Why not write and ask them? The baby food could well be meant to indicate
food suitable as a complementary food (because the packs don't really exist
until required) or it could be meant to inducate milk which would indicate
an education problem with whomever was putting the product description
together. Regardless, baby food should not be listed because it encourages
the perception that when an emergency happens that food should be sent for
babies and it is an enormous problem that unsolicited donations of infant
formula, milk products etc turn up at emergency sites because people think
it's needed.

This is a great idea. Does anyone know the details of some of the other
Mercy
kits? For example the Emergency Food Kit that lists "baby food" as one of
the
contents, or the Children's Food Kit? I am just curious - I wasn't able to
find
the exact contents and wondered if in addition to their breastfeeding kit,
they
were also providing ABM in some other kit. I am sorry to be skeptical but I
can't help but wonder.
