Dear Lactnet friends,
I want to thank all or you that responded to my relactation/adoption post.
Mom has a load of information to help her with her decision. I will keep you
posted. She is going to begin pumping and go from there.
My next situation I again have permission to post. This mom's baby is six
months of age. She has had a mastitis infection now for the fourth episode.
She had the milk cultured this last time. She called me today saying that she
finished the antibiotic last week and last night the soreness started in the
other breast. Each time it is alternating to another breast. The last time she
spoke with her physician he told her that after the cultures come back and
she takes this antibiotic she can wean or go on a low dose for three weeks. I
asked her to call him today to put her on the lower dose. She doesn't want to
wean but is really tired of being sick.
I talked with about taking probiotics to help her immune system. She nurses
exclusively except for now the beginnig of solids. Has never had sore bleeding
nipples beyond the first week. Co sleeping with infant and he nurses when he
wants. He will not take a bottle. Over the weekend when she thougjht she
would wean him. All efforts failed. Even leaving the house and letting dad be
the one to feed him. I mentioned the other alternatives, cup, spoon, medicine
dropper or cup. Which she did use some of the time. I even thought of having
a bottle offered when he is not hungry and make it a game. Leave it with him
to see if he does it on his own.
Any suggestions for this mom? She has us puzzeled why she keeps getting
this. She takes prenatal vitamins pluss calcium
Second baby, nursed last sibling for 4 months, no issues. Weaned because of
milk supply.
