license plate in their area with the meaning "Breastfeed" and been  
denied =Thank You,=20

debbie,
i'm in michigan. when i tried to apply for mine online, it was denied.  
in fact, 'breast', 'brst', 'br3st' or any other way you can think of  
to write the common english word for the female mammary was denied. my  
top 2 picks were, 'brstfdm' (breastfeed 'em!) and
'lact84m' (lactate for 'em!). all forms of 'lactate' were also denied  
online. i tried calling and was told no 'obscene' words were allowed  
on plates but i could appeal this decision.  instead i tried actually  
walking in and applying for the plates in person. i wrote both choices  
down and handed them to the lady behind the counter, w/out ever  
pronouncing them. she told me cheerfully that both were available !  
i'm not even sure she caught on or cared.
  i have since been informed that if any personalized plate elicits  
phone calls to the secretary of state (our DMV in michigan)  
complaining that it is offensive, said plate will be revoked. most of  
the time, ppl honk and wave or pull up and tell me they love it  (i  
went w/ lact84m so as not to snub those tireless & devoted pumping  
moms!) altho i was holding my breath for a cpl wks there a few mos  
ago. i looked out the window as i was making dinner and caught a woman  
taking a close-up picture of my plate w/ a cell phone camera ! she  
left before i got the door open and i've not yet heard a word about  
it, so perhaps she was another fan, after all ! my best advice is to  
go try it in person, if possible and don't specify the meaning or  
pronunciation.
