oh Susan, you are an optomist. or you hang out in LLL circles  :-) If I had 
to guess I'd say 2-6 weeks, max 3 mo. Initiation rate has gone up (however 
that is one sip to exclusive-no definition of what initiation is) but 
average length of BF hasn't improved in the US.

I would also guess that it has changed significantly world wide due to 
formula influence.  When I first worked in inner city 14 years ago the 
Mexican moms nursed years, no problem, now they all do "dos" and follow the 
US typical model, which breaks my heart.  You don't know how many times a 
day I plead for "solo pecho" :-(

I also see obese babies, toddlers, children, teens on a regular basis.  I'm 
talking about BMIs in the high 20s to 40's - in little kids!  Frankly, I 
spend most of my time discussing diet and exercise, cholesterol levels, 
hypertension, pre diabetes and wild behavior.  I blame it on American diet, 
lack of parental connectedness etc. BF in the first place would improve all 
this! Enough rant for now.
