Pat,
I tend to agree :) I'm feeling (since I started reading this list 2 years ago)...there's quite a bit of "quantifying" going on out there (which in a red flag, clinical situation, yes, there's a need)..with that being said, LLLs messages & info. resonate with me (personally) and when I counsel mothers, because, we are essentially putting that power *back* in the mother's hands by providing info. & personal support, that's sometimes more important than quantifying how much she's pumped or whatever the case may be.
Please don't anyone mis-understand me, I'm not saying *anything* disrespectful towards the professionals....these are just my feelings...Yes, there are certain guidlines, but really no hard & fast rules to bf, it's just so based on the nursing couple!!!

For 50 years LLL has stated that 4-7 oz per week is appropriate baby gain
and I'll stick by their opinion. It has always been appropriate. Babies are
individuals, with different genetic histories, and grow appropriately at own
rate if have adequate access to the breast! My other point is that someone
has to be on the 5% line to balance the kids on the 95% line! It is a
curve. That implies differences :-) Pat in SNJ
