Most of Paula Meier's research would be useful re: late preterm babies.
Even tho everything seems to be going well with BF, many of these babies
don't nurse strongly enough to build a good supply. Mom pumping between
feeds, using a supplementer may help. Paula also mentions using a <gasp>
shield, as baby doesn't seem to tire as easily. I don't think it matters if
baby is preterm or not - 2 weeks out and still below birthweight means
there is trouble with transfer of milk. Remember rule #1 :-) Feed the
baby. Rule #2: protect the milk supply. I prefer nursing with extra
pumping to build and sustain milk supply, and getting pumped milk into baby
in whatever way is least stressful for parents. (cup, finger feeding,
supplementer at breast or <gasp> bottle :-) Rule #3. fix the problem -
tincture of time, as baby grows and matures, will probably fix the problem
IF mom's milk supply is protected in the meantime. Pat in SNJ
