Mary's story about her daughter taking a poll of her class as to who was breastfed reminds me of what happened in my daughter's grade school class years ago. The teacher was talking about benefits of preschool and the edge it gives kids in school and to prove her point she wanted all the kids in the class who went to preschool to raise their hand assuming that her two top students (my daughter and her friend) hands would go up. She was shocked that they were the only 2 who hadn't been to preschool! She was telling the class it should have been the opposite. I told my daughter her next question should have been who was breastfed and for how long since being the top student in class she is probably the only one who nursed until after 4 years and asked her friend when he came over to work on a project how long he was breastfed. He was too embarrassed to answer but later told my daughter he weaned around 3 years.
The research may be mixed, but it is something you can find in some classrooms of kids.
