With my oldest, when he was 6 mos old, I used the baby food grinder--ground and pureed veggies and fruits and froze them in ice cube trays like all the moms at LLL meetings said they did. I think I threw away about 75% of those cubes and it wasn't until I saw Niles Newton speak at a LLLLI Conference when my son was a toddler that I really came to understand how to feed my babies. I loved her---she was such a wonderful speaker and such a revelation for me. I went home and fed my subsequent babies finger foods when they were ready and never again ground food for them. I have been teaching, "Let them feed themselves" ever since I saw her--since it made my life so much easier, I have always assumed others would feel just as freed by her wisdom. I am still amazed that such common sense is not yet common knowledge so many years later, but I will be forever grateful to her!
