Rice is commonly contaminated with natural yeasts, I believe. (It's a bit
like grapes and mushrooms.) This might explain why some people react to it.

Daniela,
Many of the foods mom continued to eat were possible culprits. I had one
client whose baby reacted only to eggs and chicken--nothing else. Lots of
babies have trouble with apples, rice and potatos.
Also, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I have two clients right now with
4-mos olds with horrendous gut problems. Both babies have posterior
tongue-ties--missed by everyone else they saw. You really have to eliminate
tt right up front with these kids.
Again, what has been done to heal the baby's gut? I disagree that it is ever
ok to ignore--the integrity of the gut determines the integrity of the
immune, endocrine and nervous systems. The gut can heal and manage foods
that were previously a challenge, but untreated allergens will always take a
toll on the body.
Has mom given probiotics or enzymes directly to the baby? Has the baby had
structural work? What is the condition of mom's gut? That is, IMO, the most
important question.

"Thank you all for your responses. I tried to keep the e-mail short, but it
=
seems more detail is needed. Thanks for the interest. Here it is.
Baby now almost 5 months. Not a drop of formula, ever. Didn't leave the par=
ent's sight during hospital stay, no chance of any hidden sources of formul=
a.
Mom went down to eating only chicken, rice, potatoes, carrots, zucchini, p=
ears, apples, and peaches for 10 days. No changes seen at all - stools muco=
usy and occult blood positive. Other foods added one at a time, no frank bl=
ood seen except for maybe a pin prick once. Mom back on to regular diet exc=
ept no milk protein and no soy. Also no artificial colors, preservatives, m=
ostly organic throughout.
Baby is not anemic. Happy and thriving. No sign that he feels any pain.
Stool cultures done, all came back negative.
Baby has had auriculotherapy and a form of acupuncture. Mom taking non-dair=
y probiotics and even tried medical grade pancreatic enzymes. Nothing has m=
ade any difference.
Recently baby has been having more blood, and the food diary does not show =
me any correlations until I go back for 72 hrs or so. There seems to be mor=
e blood on the 3rd day after eating fish. It seems to me to be too long. Fi=
sh was the last food re-introduced to the diet, and stools remained mucousy=
and positive for months, so now I turn to you - again. Could it take that =
long for blood to appear? Why would that be the case? Also, why are stools =
always mucousy and blood positive regardless of diet?"
