Dear all:
First, shouldn't we begin talking about the nutritional deficiencies and imbalances of not
breastfeeding?
Second, for those who doubt that there might be an opening in terms of promotion more
funding for science that is not tainted with conflicts of interest in the United States, Newt
Gingrich stated on the radio today (don't know when the segment was clipped) that the
NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION needs more funding!!!!!!!
So, with this significant proclamation from someone who is for small government, albeit
he's added "smarter" to his descriptions of what he wants to see in the US government.
Seems to me that there is a tiny crack in the door to stop complaining about all the
research we see that is filled with conflicts of interest and start lobbying for better
sources of funding, particularly for our most vulnerable citizens --- our infants.
Best, Susan Burger
PS. I too agree with the thought that we don't need more research on proving the risks of
not breastfeeding, we need research on how to set up structures on many levels to
remove the barriers for women to be able to breastfeed normally.
