Hi all,
Have a mom, age 44, 2nd baby, first one she bf 2 1/2 yrs (he's 3 1/2 now)
with relatively few problems. Saw this baby yesterday - he's now 5 1/2 mo,
hasn't gained an ounce in the last 6 weeks, but looks healthy. Bf here, a
good feed, according to mom; took a total (according to the scale) of 2.4 oz
(not terrific). Pops on & off the br, very lively, if you breathe heavy,
he's distracted. Will not settle in and have a good, nice long feed. Hasn't
really ever. Not a problem with overactive - never has been - he's been like
this since the beginning. Frankly, watching him nurse wasn't really very
enjoyable. Mom very laid back - great mom. Baby bf 5 to 7 x per 24 hours,
will NOT bf any more often than that. He will sometimes get on br, and
within 1 or 2 minutes come off & scream, then back on then off & scream, etc.
etc. (Usually I associate this with overactive, but not here). Even when
she lets down & he's getting milk he isn't happy. No evidence of allergies
that I can tell. Stools normal, peeing OK - just not gaining weight. Didn't
explore diet, not quite sure what to explore at this point. Happy between
feeds, and as i said, looks healthy except for lousy weight gain. She went
home with a pump, fenugreek tab suggestion, and a cup. Also might want to
consider solids given the age & the weight gain. What thinks you all?
