Dear Lactnetters...need some advice / input:
History
Initial consult at 4 weeks of age: reason, mom wanted me to massage
stomach and intestinal tract to rid infant of barium due to workup of
Hirshbrungs disease. It was r/o.
Infant had frothy green soda water looking stools. Explosive lots of gas pain
and many as 30 stools/day. Mom reports baby "crawling" up neck in pain. We
procede to pre -post weigh. Infant weighed after 1st breast took 124cc in 12
min. Would have put baby to other side if we had not seen that much
transfer. Peds informed, now she knows why stomach sooo distended and
watery stools
fast forward 4weeks today
mom has been on dairy free diet x 4 weeks
baby has been on probiotics x 3 1/2 weeks shipped in cold containers liquid
caps. from biogaia?
giving gripe water also
Had mom start double sided feeding, last week went to triple sided. Some
occassional seedy stools still mostly liquid and yellow - green.
Stools reduced to 6 -8 /day Lots of wet diapers.
Baby remains very gassy and uncomfortable. Stomach is looking better but
pediatrian wants to do upper GI series.
Is this a condition of the baby digesting very quickly, so curds never have a
chance to form in the bowel. I have had her pump and put milk on counter to
see if she can tell how much fat content is in milk. Hoping more fat in this
baby would reduce transit time.
Why would baby still have such watery yellow/green stools. And still be fussy
gassy, with a somewhat distended belly? (better than at initial consult for
sure)
Thoughts comments welcomed. I can't think of anything else to do. Even
pumping a ounce before putting baby to breast.
Weight gain is excellent. Baby growing and thriving in every way. What is
causing this little one to be so miserable with gas, and frothy green stool.
Has anyone gone down to blocked feeds with 4 in a row? I'm at a loss.
TIA
robin
