I never tell the exact ages at either LLL meetings, or, of course to clients, but
here, it's safe. :)
Baby 1 b 1986 about 15 to 16 months. I miscarried around this time, I don't
know if there is a connection. I have OER, and it wasn't identified until Baby
no 2 was around 10 months old. This first baby *never* nursed for
comfort. :(
Baby 2 b 1988 about 2.5 years.
Baby 3 b 1999 almost 5 years. (Baby born @ 36-37 wks guest)
My second baby also "forgot" how to nurse. A few weeks after her last wide
awake nursing, I was talking to a LLL friend on the phone, and I said, "You
know, I think Becca may have weaned." Of course, Becca heard me, and came
in the room and demanded "Nummie NUM!" (She hadn't asked in weeks.) So, I
got off the phone, sat on the floor, and offered it to her. She tried, did some
very weird thing with her mouth, made some faces, stretched her mouth in a
strange configuration and said. "I can't. Dere's no milky anymore. I done." And
walked away to play with her sister. And that was that. I do believe she had
forgotten how to nurse in only a few weeks. (I had colostrum like fluid for over
3 years after the second baby weaned, though. It dissipated much more
quickly after the third baby had weaned, though. By the time she weaned I
was *well* into my 40s and into perimenopause, so that could be why. I'm not
sure, though.)
