did I read this right? Is it just me...?
I want to cast my vote in favor of evidence based practice. In fact, I believe its something we are committed to as IBCLCs. Specifically, I'm in favor of whatever works, and opposed to what doesn't work, so there's a lot of room in there to tailor ideas to individual dyads and to use my intuition. As for the Lansinoh, I acknowledge that there's no evidence, at least last time I checked, but that many mothers like it. My sense is that it's harmless, and there is a great deal of evidence to support the placebo effect, or the Hawthorne effect (now that I as someone in authority have given you this token of my esteem, this gift of nipple cream, you will probably notice that you start to feel better....)
