When I first learned the latching technique that goes with cross cradle hold, it
was in a LLLL article about Baby Led latch. I was in great need of a solution
for a consistant sore nipple problem, and of course extreme engorgement that
everyone had. It was miraculous! I work in a typical US hospital setting...
meds, near term, short attention span adults who have 'no milk', etc. This
Baby led latch technique with a transitional hold, along with Rebecca Glover's,
Diane Wiessinger's and Dr. Newman's further input (Is it called asymmetrical
latch now?) is what I mostly teach because without it we have, without fail,
rip roaring sore nipples again, folks run out of patience, and so many
difficulties. For a few home births I attended since I learned this, it wasn't
needed. I had a client with a new baby who used side lying until she had such
sore nipples she couldn't nurse for a day. That's how I became convinced of
this technique for brand new medically managed babies. I am totally open to
new ideas, and this is the first I've heard of the new cradle position, even
though I study bf daily. It's great learning about all the different settings/age
appropriate ideas! I love Lactnet!!! Thank you all! Judy
