OK, I'm 48, but I only learned hand expression maybe 7 years ago. My
daughter was over 3, close to weaning, and I was at a LLL Chapter meeting.
One of the other Leaders there asked our illustrious Kay Hoover to show her
how to hand express, because she hadn't been successful at it, and several
of us chimed in with interest as well. It became a group session.

I had read the Marmet technique, had probably explained it to mothers over
the phone as a LLLL, but had never been successful with it myself. Even that
night, as I watched Kay show other mothers, I still couldn't get anything
out. Then Kay demonstrated with her hand on my breast, and milk squirted
right out! I was able to do it after *feeling* someone else do it. I think I
had previously always put my fingers too far back from the nipple.

I didn't have much need to use it, but I amuse myself now, 6+ years after my
daughter weaned, by being able to express a drop of milk easily (that's
because I have a prolactinoma and an elevated prolactin level).
