Just to chime in on this discussion - my 2nd (only girl - and still a very picky eater) refused solids for the longest of my children (even the 2 with multiple food allergies). She was around 8 months old before she was willing to try soft foods she could pick up and eat herself - a slight problem since she didn't get her first tooth until almost 12 months. Strangely would pick up junk off the floor and suck/chew on it for the longest time - unless it was a piece of food, that was spit out immediately! We thought she may have food sensitivities (not true allergies) but could never figure that out!
Just my addition to the strange baby food starting habits.
