Liz asks: "I want to know *what you say* to re-assure Moms, to get them to
commit to this time-intensive plan, without making promises that cannot be
kept".
Liz, I have moms try everything they can for at least 3 weeks, and tell them
that we don't know how their body will respond, but are trying all this so
that they wont suffer from feelings of guilt later down the road, thinking
if only they had tried harder. They all seem very happy with this.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. When it doesnt, we discuss how
every drop of milk is "medicine" that the baby would not otherwise be
getting from the formula, and we come up with a new plan that mom thinks is
workable for them. Sometimes its throwing in the towel, but most of the
time, its doing both breast and formula.
