Dear friends,

I find myself a bit puzzled on a case and would appreciate some input.
A mom of a nearly 2 month old baby reports a very fluctuating milk production to the extend that she can have up to 3 episodes of overproduction in a week with underproduction in between. She will experience high production, including severe engorgement and colic and green stools in the baby. Baby will feed from one breasts each feeding. Then the production will work down, probably due to a well-working FIL to the point that her baby has to feed both sides a feeding and still be unhappy. Bowel movements change with this from nice yellow, ''mustard'' like to greenish and running.
What especially bothers me is the speed of change in production. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. Any thoughts?

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands
