I work in a hospital with a 19-bed SCN. One of our patients delivered 28 week 
twins who were mostly breastfeeding at discharge one week ago. At time of 
discharge the alk phos levels on both babies were too high, indicating that the 
babies were not getting enough calcium and minerals (vitamin D) from 
breastmilk alone, and the pediatrician ordered mother to begin mostly bottle 
feeding with HMF as a fortifier until the levels begin to decrease. Mother began 
to do this, and now tells me that the infant are, of course, beginning to prefer 
the bottle and become less effective at breastfeeding.

The ped is really quite supportive of breastfeeding, and would be open to any 
info or literature which points in the correct direction of care for this situation.
