Dear All,
I share the same feelings as the mail written by David Fielder. Though I am
not an IBCLCE but I do work with lactating mothers. I also have the similar
question to be put up to the group. I would appreciate if anybody could
reply to this mail.
As I have also noted in my hospital that if the mother is not able to breast
feed in the first few hours of birth the baby is supplemented with formula
feed.
Thanks,
Kajal

Heide,
Weaning is completely unnecessary. I would suggest copying the page from
Hale, and also getting the section in Ruth Lawrence's book to show him. What
he is really saying is "I don't know so I'm going to do the "safe" thing--
recommend weaning." But here's an even better way: talk to the
pediatrician. Be sure he has the same info just in case he isn't familiar
either, though he should be. It's the pediatrician's call in the end. If the
same doc is the pediatrician, well........ time to get informed!
Postpartum thyroiditis can affect milk supply so it really is important for
her to get her meds squared away.

Subject: scale question
I have a friend who is a holistic practitioner--not a ped--who sees a lot of
babies, but not for primary care. She would like a scale to weigh babies
(not to measure milk intake). What would be the best choice for this
purpose?
