I would be thinking maybe staph infection, tongue tie, or possibly an
anatomical variant on roof of baby's mouth. I would definitely advise mother
on
wound cleaning with mild soap and water and saline rinse. Leave exposed to
air, apply antibacterial ointment, and possibly wear a hydrogel-type
dressing. A systemic antibiotic may also be indicated. And certainly observe
the dyad for positioning, latching, and oral anatomy of baby.
