June  - I call this situation 'very generous milk supply'  as it 
demedicalises it and turns it into a sort of compliment to the mother!

I would say the mother and baby in your scenario are experiencing 
this, and block nursing can be very effective. My experience is that 
it needs to be tried for at least 2 days before you can be sure it is 
not having an effect, but some mothers notice an improvement straight 
away ;)
